There seems to be an endless number of streaming services out there nowadays, and plenty that have a wide variety of options to watch. But if you’re the type of person who doesn’t want to pay for a whole bunch of nothing you watch, then maybe you might be interested in some streaming services that offer something more niche. So, here’s a list of 10 niche streaming services.
Crunchyroll
Crunchyroll is an anime streaming service. It has a ton of anime, both in Japanese with subtitles and dubbed in English. There is an option to watch most of their anime with ads for free, but there are some that you can’t watch unless you have their paid subscription.
They offer a few different subscriptions that have different benefits, but all of them will allow you to watch all their anime ad-free. So, if you’re an anime fan, then this niche streaming service might be for you.
Shudder
If the name hasn’t already given it away, this niche streaming service focuses on horror, thrillers, suspense, and anything related to those genres. So, if you like watching horror, then you might want to check Shudder out.
You do have to pay for a subscription, but they offer a free trial so you can test it out before you buy. It has movies, TV shows, documentaries, and original content. They also have some TV channels you can stream as well.
AsianCrush
AsianCrush is home to a whole bunch of Asian cinema and content. Are you a fan of K-dramas? Then you’re definitely going to like this streaming service. It’s got movies, TV shows, anime, and live TV.
Some of their content is available to watch without even subscribing or logging in, but they do lock others behind a log-in. You can watch some things for free, but they also have a subscription plan to watch everything.
Curiosity Stream
Curiosity Stream is a streaming service full of documentaries, so if you like learning, then this one might be for you. It’s strictly a paid subscription service, so unfortunately, there’s no free content. However, they do have a bundle option that gives you access to some other similar streaming services.
There are movies and TV shows, all of which are documentaries with interesting information to feed your curiosity. It’s like the History Channel or Discovery but just the documentary learning side.
The Criterion Channel
This streaming service is strictly for films. It’s got a mixture of classic and contemporary films. You have to subscribe to watch anything, but they do offer a free trial. Judging by what I see from the service itself, it offers a lot of content, much of which you can’t find anywhere else.
If you’re a movie buff, you might want to check this one out. Although you’ll have to pay to watch it, the service does allow you to check out a list of what it has without having to sign up or pay for anything.
BroadwayHD
Some of these names make it pretty obvious, but in case you can’t tell, this niche stream service is all about Broadway. It is another paid service, but you can do some browsing to see what they have beforehand.
They have all sorts of Broadway shows you can watch ad-free, and I mean actual Broadway shows. And no, you don’t have to dress up or wait until intermission to use the bathroom. If you love seeing Broadway shows and musicals, then this streaming service might just be perfect for you. There’s even Ian McKellen’s King Lear on there.
BritBox
This paid streaming service offers the ability to watch British TV without actually, well, being in England. There are TV shows, movies, documentaries, etc., all from the UK. You won’t find any Hollywood movies here, but you might see some of the British actors who have been in Hollywood films.
If you’re originally from England but don’t live there anymore and miss the entertainment from home or just like to watch British entertainment, then BritBox gives you the ability to do so. You can check out what they have before you decide to subscribe as well.
Allblk
Allblk is a niche streaming service solely for Black entertainment. It’s a paid service but does have some free content available, and you can check out what they have without signing up.
It’s got a lot of movies, TV shows, stand-up comedy, and more, all of which are made and/or have a Black cast. They have some originals too. There’s also some content from WeTV.
Mubi
Mubi is another streaming service that is all about movies. It prides itself on having cult classics and award-winning entertainment. It’s also a paid service but does offer a free trial like many of the others.
It’s a little harder to browse what they have on this one, but you still can if you click on the different links they have in Google rather than on their main page. If you really like cinema, you’ll probably want to check this service out. They even have movies like The Godfather, Spirited Away, Pulp Fiction, and more.
Midnight Pulp
Midnight Pulp is a niche streaming service that’s all about the unusual. Similar to Shudder, it also has horror and thrillers, but it leans more towards the weird and macabre side of entertainment. It also has some cult classics as well.
It offers some of its content for free, but there are others that you need to subscribe to be able to watch. There are movies, TV shows, and live TV like Elvira, Highlander, and some really weird-looking stuff I’ve never heard of before.
