Conventions can be a lot of fun, but if you haven’t been to one before, you might make a few mistakes. Here’s a list of convention tips to improve your experience while attending a convention. There’s also a infographic version of these tips located at the bottom of the post.

Wear Comfortable Shoes

You’ll be doing a lot of walking when you are at a convention, so wear a good pair of comfortable shoes. You don’t want to end up with sore feet or even blisters when you are trying to enjoy a convention.

Carry Light

Do not over pack your bag or backpack because you’ll be carrying it the entire time you are there. I took a drawstring bag to my first convention, and the more I put in it, the more the strings pulled on me. Choose what is most comfortable for you, and don’t over pack it.

Eat Outside the Convention

The food at conventions can get expensive. Eat somewhere other than the convention center if you want to save money. There will be plenty of restaurants in the vicinity of the convention center where you can eat. They want those con-goers as customers. Check out these money-saving tips if you want to save more money at conventions.

Bring Pain and Stomach Medicine

We’re all human, which means we all get aches, pains, and stomach issues. You won’t realize how much walking you are doing until your legs are sore. You’ll thank me later if you bring some pain reliever so that soreness doesn’t ruin your day or night.

Don’t forget heartburn, gas, or any other medicine you might need. Everyone has had some food that does not agree with them at some point in their lives. You just don’t want that to happen while you are waiting in line for an autograph.

Book Your Hotel Room Early

Hotels near convention centers will fill up quickly. Experienced con-goers start booking their hotel rooms a year before the convention. If you want to stay at a hotel close to the convention center, you will have to book a room early as well. Keep in mind that they become pricier the closer they are to the convention center. Choose a hotel that is further away if you want to save money.

Dress Comfortably

Have you noticed the pattern yet? Dress comfortably if you aren’t cosplaying. Just like with the shoes, you don’t want to be walking around in clothes that start to feel uncomfortable after a while. Keep in mind the weather conditions you’ll encounter while at the convention. If it’s hot outside, you probably don’t want to wear long sleeves and jeans.

Bring A Refillable Water Bottle

You’ll want to stay hydrated, so bring your own refillable water bottle. Even buying bottled water can be costly at a convention, but you can easily refill your water bottle at the convention’s water fountains.

Bring Snacks

It is a good idea to bring a snack in case you get hungry but don’t want to buy a full meal quite yet, especially if you want to eat outside the convention center but aren’t ready to leave yet. It will also help you maintain your energy levels.

If Cosplaying, Bring Repair Items

There’s a chance that something will happen to your cosplay, and you’ll want to repair it. You don’t need to bring all your materials and every single tool you use to make whatever cosplay you’re wearing, but a few items just might save the day if you find a tear in your cosplay.
