Last week, I wrote a blog post about 10 Lego sets based on video games. This time, I’m writing a post highlighting 10 Lego sets based on movies. As with my last post on Lego, some of these are expensive, so I’ll try my best to add a variety of price ranges that do include some that aren’t as pricey.
Jaws
This set, based on the 1975 movie Jaws, comes with 1,497 pieces and is for ages 18 and up. It has three minifigures of characters from the movie, including police chief Martin Brody, Matt Hooper, and Sam Quint. It also has a buildable shark.
The main section of the set is the Orca boat. It has a removeable roof, adjustable boom and rigging, and a lot of different iconic details. It comes with a sea-water base where the shark can be placed as if it’s attacking the boat. Though, the shark can be displayed separately as well. It’s 14 inches in height and 23 inches long.
R2-D2™
Obviously, there are a lot of other Star Wars Lego sets. In fact, I could probably write a whole blog post for just them (and I might). But this particular set has 1,050 pieces and is for ages 10 and up. It’s a 9-inch high and 6-inch wide R2-D2. You can rotate his head and attach his periscope, third leg, and other parts to him if you want.
It also comes with a minifigure of R2 and a plaque with information about the droid that can hold the minifigure. You can also get this set with a 25th anniversary Darth Malak figure.
Hogwarts™ Castle and Grounds
This 2,660-piece set is for adults and is 8.5 inches high and 13.5 inches wide. This is a detailed model of Hogwarts, complete with the Main Tower, Great Hall, astronomy tower, boathouse, courtyards, bridges and paths, rocks, and the Black Lake.
There are also small rooms in the rocks to create, like the Chamber of Secrets, Potions classroom, and more. You’ll also get a Hogwarts architect minifigure. The whole set looks pretty cool, and I’m sure any Harry Potter fan will like it.
Gandalf the Grey™ & Balrog™
The Lord of the Rings also has a lot of different Lego sets, but this one in particular is 345 pieces and for ages 10 and up. The reason I put it on the list is because it’s much cheaper than a lot of the other sets. It comes with two buildable figures, Gandolf and the Balrog, that you can display when you’re done.
They are only 3.5 inches tall, so they won’t take up much room. They are perfect to add a touch of your favorite movie (or book, technically) to your everyday life. Plus, they are actually pretty cute, and you can get other characters as well to add to the collection, like Legolas, Frodo, Aragon, and more.
Temple of the Golden Idol
This 1,545-piece set features the iconic scene from Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark. It’s very detailed, comes with a Golden Idol that can light up, and has an interactive rolling boulder. You’ll also get four minifigures, including Indiana Jones, Satipo, Belloq, and a Hovitos warrior.
It’s 8 inches in height and 20 inches wide, looks really cool, and still has other interactive features I haven’t mentioned yet, like a collapsible wall and a trapdoor, and you can also swing Indy across a cavern.
Dinosaur Fossils: T. rex Skull
This set is only 577 pieces and is geared towards ages 9 and up, but it looks pretty good and is appropriate for display. It’s from Jurassic World, but there are sets for Jurassic Park as well; this one is just a bit more within a reasonable price range.
It’s a buildable skull with a moveable jaw, a fossilized footprint, and a hidden amber piece. The whole model is 8 inches high and 7 inches wide, and the skull can be displayed in a variety of different ways. It also comes with a plaque with some information about the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Bumblebee
In case the name isn’t obvious, this 950-piece set is a buildable 1980’s Bumblebee from the Transformers franchise. It’s 10 inches high and 5 inches wide. One of the coolest features of this Lego set is that he can convert to vehicle mode without even unbuilding him.
The joints can move, so you can change his pose, and he comes with an ion blaster and jetpack. There’s also a display plaque with information on Bumblebee. You can also get Optimus Prime.
Toruk Makto & Tree of Souls
This set has 1,212 pieces and is for ages 12 and up. It’s the Tree of Souls from the Avatar movie, with glow-in-the-dark pieces. It also comes with Jake Sully, Neytiri, Mo’at, and Tsu’Tey Na’vi minifigures, a Diehorse figure, and a buildable Toruk.
The Toruk is 9.5 inches high and 15 inches wide. The Tree of Souls is 8.5 inches tall and 9 inches wide. Yes, the set is for children, but if you’re a fan of the Avatar movies, then I’m sure you’ll like this set. Plus, you don’t have to display them together if you don’t want to, or just build it for fun and then dismantle it if you’d like.
Disney Duos
This 553-piece set for ages 6 and up might be a lot easier to build than others on this list, but I added it because it’s a more reasonable-priced option. Plus, you get four groups of famous Disney pairs. If you’re a fan of Disney movies, you’ll definitely like this one.
You get 8 buildable figures, which include Cogsworth and Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast, Nemo and Squirt from Finding Nemo, Percy and Meeko from Pocahontas, and Pua and Hei Hei from Moana. Each character is also posable. They can be displayed, and yes, kids can play with them too.
Ghostbusters™ ECTO-1
This 2352-piece set for ages 18 and up is a model of the car from Ghostbusters. It’s detailed, has a gunner seat that rotates out of the car, a releasable ghost trap, and comes with the little remote trap vehicle too.
It’s pretty big, being 8 inches high and 18 inches long. There are also customized details related to the type of car it is, the 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor. It also has working steering and a few other moving parts.
