Weekly Recommendations is a post I write every week where I recommend three different kinds of entertainment for you. This can include anime, comic books, video games, movies, books, and other similar forms of media. They can also vary in intended audience, age of release, and other factors.

Reincarnated into a fantasy novel, Scarlett Arman knows the character she plays is doomed to die at the hands of her fiancé, Emperor Charleon Kalior. But she’s determined to change her fate by getting the emperor to break off their engagement. Her plan to do that is to act crazy. But the results seem to be the opposite of what she wants, as Charleon keeps wanting to spend even more time with her.

The Rising: A Novel (The Rising, 1)

  • Book
  • Science Fiction, Mystery, Action, Adventure

Alex Chin is a popular high school football player. Samantha Dixon, his tutor, is at the top of her class and wants to turn her NASA internship into a career. Alex has been admitted to the hospital following a football injury, and his CT scan reveals odd results. Then his doctor is killed, and something seems to be hunting him down. Alex flees, urging Samantha not to follow, but she refuses, particularly after learning that Alex’s adopted parents have died. The two race against the clock to get ahead of Alex’s pursuers and figure out why they are chasing him. However, the reason seems to be linked to his past and his birth parents, whom he is unaware of and a secret his adopted parents died trying to protect.

Ponyo

  • Movie
  • Adventure, Fantasy

A goldfish runs away from home. Sousuke, a child who saves her from a jar, names her Ponyo. However, her real name is Brunhilde, and her father is a sorcerer who has abandoned humanity in order to live underwater. When her father finds her, Ponyo rejects him and wants to become human. She returns to the surface, sprouting arms and legs as a result of the power she gained by licking Sousuke’s blood from a cut. The magic, however, creates an imblance, and the moon begins to move out of orbit, causing the tides to rise. Sousuke and Ponyo must pass an ancient test to restore world order and allow Ponyo to live as a human.
