Weekly Recommendations is a post I write every Friday where I recommend three different kinds of entertainment. These can be comics, anime, video games, movies, and other similar forms of entertainment. They may also vary in genre, intended audience, and age.

Ascendance of a Bookworm

  • Anime: 36 episodes & 2 OVAs
  • Fantasy, Slice-of-life, Isekai

Urano Motosu is a bookworm who wants to be a librarian, but her dreams are crushed when she is killed in a car accident. She reincarnates as Myne, a weak five-year-old in a medieval society. In a world without the printing press, all books are hand-copied, making them rare and expensive, yet she is determined to read them again. Even so, she refuses to give up, and if she can’t afford to buy books, she will make her own.

Yankee-kun to Hakujou Girl

  • Manga: 8 volumes
  • Comedy, Romance

Known as “Morio the Black Panther,” Morio Kurokawa is a high school dropout and notorious delinquent. He meets a girl named Yukiko Akaza, who has a condition that affects her vision. She isn’t scared of him, and Morio grows fond of Yukiko as they continue to cross paths. As they spend more time together, he grows more conscious of the difficulties she faces due to her poor vision and develops a strong desire to protect her.

Harley Quinn Mad Love

  • Novel
  • Action, Superheroes

Mad Love tells the history and origins of Harley Quinn from her perspective. The story begins with her childhood, then moves on to her position at Arkham Asylum, how she fell in love with the Joker, her experience with him, and finally her solo debut as a villain. The book was written by Pat Cadigan and one of her original creators, Paul Dini.
