Technically, anyone can enjoy and watch whatever they like, but I thought I’d create a list of some cartoons for adults to enjoy. This isn’t a list of cartoons aimed at adults, such as American Dad, Futurama, or Family Guy. I’m referring to cartoons that are normally aimed at children or teenagers but are interesting to adults as well due to in-depth stories, good character development, and other similar factors.
Avatar: The Last Airbender
The four countries that make up the world are the Earth Kingdom, the Water Tribes, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads. Benders can use one of these four elements. All four are available for the avatar. Aang is found encased under ice by Katara and Sokka, two water-bending siblings from the Water Tribe. When they break through the ice and thaw him up, they discover that Aang is the last living airbender after the Fire Nation’s lord wiped them out a century ago. Since Aang is also the avatar, it is now his responsibility to master the other three elements and defeat the Fire Lord, who started a worldwide war in the avatar’s absence to expand his domain.
The Legend of Korra
The story takes place in the same universe as Avatar: The Last Airbender, where some individuals possess the power to “bend” one of the four elements (fire, air, earth, and water). The only being who can bend all four is the avatar. It is Korra’s turn to assume responsibility for maintaining the world’s political and spiritual order, as she is the reincarnation of Aang, the avatar from the previous series.
Gravity Falls
Dipper and Mabel Pines are staying with their great-uncle Stan Pines, who owns the Mystery Shack, a tourist trap, during their summer break. However, Gravity Falls experiences weird supernatural events, and after Dipper finds a mysterious journal, the two are determined to solve the town’s mysteries.
Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir
Adrien Agreste and Marinette Dupain-Cheng use miraculous to change into the superheroes Ladybug and Cat Noir. They work together to defend Paris from Hawk Moth, a villain who wants to take their miraculous using akumas, which can transform anyone into a supervillain when they experience distressing emotions. While they are friends, Marinette has affection for Adrien, and Adrien has feelings for Ladybug, both of whom are unaware of each other’s secret identities.
DreamWorks Dragons
This cartoon takes place between the first and second How to Train Your Dragon films, as Hiccup and the rest of the Vikings of Berk attempt to coexist with dragons. Along with the Dragon Training Academy, Hiccup and his companions must contend with a world outside of Berk that contains untrainable dragons and people who want to destroy Berk’s peace with dragons.
Samurai Jack
To fight the mystical shape-shifting demon Aku, a young prince from feudal Japan returns from training. However, before the prince can strike the fatal blow, Aku curses him with time travel and sends him to a dystopian future where Aku rules. The young samurai adopts the name Jack. Jack is determined to return to his own time and defeat Aku.
Batman: The Animated Series
A more mature cartoon based on the DC Comics superhero Batman fighting crime in Gotham. Despite some more mature themes and violence, the cartoon is still appropriate for children.
Young Justice
Young Justice is an original story about a group of DC Comics’ young heroes. The series follows a group of young superheroes as they establish a team to fight supervillains and learn more about themselves and their powers. Robin, Superboy, Kid Flash, Aqualad, Red Arrow, Artemis, and Miss Martian are among the major characters, with more young superheroes and sidekicks joining them later on.
