Star Rating:
In For My Derelict Favorite, Hestia finds herself as a side character in her favorite novel, eager to watch her favorite characters play out their roles in the book. She believes that following the novel’s conclusion, she will return to her original world. But when the end comes, she does not return home, and her favorite character dies tragically. However, Hestia returns to the day the novel ended, and this time, instead of just observing her favorite character from the sidelines, she’s going to have a direct role in saving the character she cares about the most.
As you can see from the summary, this webtoon is obviously another Isekai, but it’s entertaining and genuinely funny. It isn’t particularly original, but it does have some elements that we don’t see as often in others. For example, the main female character is isekai’d, but as the story ends and she witnesses the aftermath of the ‘Happily Ever After’ that isn’t mentioned in the book, she also travels back in time.
While the fundamental concept isn’t original, the plot is well-written. Given that she is a fangirl, the female lead is very likable and relatable. She will go to any length to make her favorite happy again and punish those who have wronged him (the novel’s two main characters). She isn’t scared to be the bad guy, though there aren’t many times when she is. After all, the novel’s two main leads, the ones she wants to exact revenge on, aren’t as ‘good’ and ‘kind’ as they appear in the novel.
The romance between Hestia and her favorite character (her derelict favorite), Cael, develops at a realistic pace. After all, Cael loves the novel’s main female lead, and he is the novel’s second male lead (which you’ll obviously understand if you read romance manga, webtoons, etc.), so his feelings shouldn’t change too quickly or it’ll feel poorly written. Moments between them are adorable and satisfying, but you also want to see their relationship continue to grow.
The comedy is fantastic. This webtoon contains some truly hilarious moments. So, any serious material, and there are some serious subjects in this webtoon, is well balanced with comic relief. There are a couple instances that truly stand out to me and make me laugh even now. But don’t believe that this webcomic is simply about romance and laughter. As previously stated, For My Derelict Favorite contains some very serious subjects, and the author does a great job of depicting those struggles.
The artwork is beautiful and detailed. From the way the eyes and eyelashes are drawn to the highlights and shadows, I really enjoy the design choices. Hestia is gorgeous, and she has some fantastic hairstyles and outfits. There are also some hilarious scenes depicted in chibi form that are adorable.
For My Derelict Favorite is another isekai, so there aren’t any really new concepts in this webtoon. But it’s entertaining to read and contains some hilarious moments. It’s well-written with engaging characters, particularly our main female protagonist, and the artwork is stunning. I’ve been enjoying it a lot and always look forward to seeing new chapters. I highly recommend reading it.
