Weekly Recommendations is a post I write every Friday in which I recommend three different kinds of entertainment. This can include anime, comics, TV shows, books, video games, and other forms of media.

The Mafia Nanny

  • Webtoon
  • Action, Romance

Davina lost her family to mafia crime when she was a child. Her nanny raised her and founded a school for elite nannies with special skills. Davina’s first client to nanny now that she is older and has completed her education is Gabriel Angelini, a Venetian underboss. Davina is dragged back into the mafia world after being tasked with protecting his son, but she also suspects the Angelini’s might have been involved in her parents’ murder.

Steins;Gate

  • Anime, 24 episodes
  • Science Fiction, Mystery, Drama

Rintarou Okabe, a scientist, his friend Mayuri Shiina, and his roommate Itaru Hashida created the Future Gadget Laboratory; however, they have only invented a microwave that turns bananas into green slime. Rintarou witnesses an unusual sequence of events after attending a time travel conference sponsored by neuroscientist Kurisu Makise, which leads him to learn that the microwave can send text messages into the past. As Rintarou experiments with the “time machine,” he attracts the STERN organization’s attention and causes disruptions in the timeline. He must restore the damage and save his friends while battling his deteriorating sanity.

Weiss Schwarz

  • Card Game
  • Deck Builder, Collectable, Strategy

Weiss Schwarz is a collectible deck-building card game from Japan. The cards are themed after characters from anime shows. Examples include Fairy Tail, Fate/Stay Night, Love Live!, Steins;Gate, and other series. You can buy packs to find the best cards for your strategy. The goal is to force the other player to advance to the fourth level (as specified in the game’s rules) or to prevent yourself from reaching the fourth level until your opponent runs out of cards. With each level, you can play more powerful characters. It is similar to Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic: The Gathering; however, it is based on anime characters.
