Here’s another weekly recommendations post in which I suggest three different kinds of entertainment. Remember that these can also differ in terms of intended audience and date of release, so they could be old or new.

I Stole the Number One Ranker’s Soul

  • Manhwa
  • Fantasy, Action, Comedy

The world in which Son Mo-Ah lives is plagued with dungeons that hold dangerous and deadly creatures. Fortunately, hunters have special abilities that they can use to defeat these monsters and take their loot (much like in a video game). A dungeon appears in Son Mo-Ah’s bedroom one day, and she awakens as a hunter, although her main ability is gathering items. When she finds herself in another dungeon, she nearly avoids death thanks to the assistance of the number one hunter, Seo Ji-Han, but her contact with him means she will no longer be able to live in peace and will have to confront many other deadly creatures as well as humans.

Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina

  • Anime
  • Fantasy, Adventure

Inspired by the stories of Niké, a traveling witch, young Elaina desires to become a witch so she can explore the world for herself. After being the youngest person to pass the sorcery exam, Elaina eventually becomes a full-fledged witch and, despite some obstacles, finds a witch who will apprentice her. She then embarks on her own journey, keeping a notebook of her observations.

Kamisama Kiss

  • Manga
  • Fantasy, Romance, Comedy, Supernatural

Nanami Momozono is a high school girl who is homeless due to her absentee father’s debt. While out on the street, Nanami rescues a man from a dog. They talk about the situation she’s in, and he offers her his house. That house turns out to be a shrine to Mikage, the land god. Mikage is the man Nanami saved, and he’s asked Nanami to stand in for him while he’s elsewhere. Nanami must learn how to be a proper deity and care for the shrine in Mikage’s absence with the help of two shrine spirits and a dissatisfied fox familiar named Tomoe.
