Weekly Recommendations is a post I publish every Friday in which I recommend three different types of entertainment. Possible forms of entertainment include anime, comic books, TV shows, books, movies, video games, and other similar media.
Lycoris Recoil
- Anime, 13 episodes
- Action, Slice-of-life
Direct Attack (DA) is a counter-terrorism organization that trains orphaned girls to be assassins through its “Lycoris” program. Takina Inoue is a Lycoris, but a hostage scenario drives her to disobey orders. DA transfers her to LycoReco, which is disguised as a cafe. Takina’s new partner, acclaimed Lycoris prodigy Chisato Nichikigi, brings Takina along on odd jobs in the name of helping those in need. Even stranger, Chisato refuses to kill anyone, despite the fact that it is their job. Takina wishes to return to DA, but Chisato wants to show her that life is more than only killing.
The Villainess Flips the Script
- Manhwa, Webtoon
- Comedy, Fantasy, Romance
After being hit by a car, a young woman awakens as a supporting character in a story she read. She is the main character’s evil aunt, Judith, who raised him after his mother died but mistreated him and sold him for money when his father’s affluent and powerful family came for him. The aunt gets murdered as a result. Determined to change that fate, Judith decides to treat the child with respect, even if it is only for the short months she is with him. When his father’s family arrives to pick him up, the kid insists that Judith is his mother and must accompany them. Because she knows the story’s plot, Judith knows the child is in danger from an assassination plot and so pretends to be his mother to help protect him.
Rogue: The Complete Collection
- Marvel Comic
- Superhero, Action, Adventure
This collection contains issues 1–12 of Rogue’s third series, which debuted in 2004. Rogue returns to her hometown and confronts her past with the help of Gambit, and a photo from her time in the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants transports her to Japan, where she must battle Sunfire, Lady Deathstrike, and Blindspot.
