Weekly Recommendations is a post I publish every Friday in which I recommend three different types of media. These can include media such as anime, manga, books, TV shows, movies, and video games.

Miss Not-So Sidekick

  • Manhwa, 178 episodes
  • Comedy, Fantasy, Isekai, Romance

Hyejung awakens to find herself in her favorite novel. She is not the heroine who seduces three attractive men, but Latte Ectrie, a minor villain who everyone hates. Hyejung chooses to become Latte and fully embrace her new life. Ten years later, she’s a successful author under a pseudonym, and all she wants to do now is eat popcorn and watch all the drama between her favorite characters. However, her odd behavior has made her a larger part of the plot than she thinks.

Static Shock

  • Cartoon, 52 episodes
  • Action, Adventure, Superhero, Comedy, Science Fiction

Virgil Hawkins, a 14-year-old high school student, was subjected to a chemical container explosion, which released a gas that causes mutations. Virgil learns to generate, absorb, and control electricity and magnetism, turning him into the superhero “Static.” The gas also gives power to everyone in the vicinity of the explosion. Virgil uses his abilities to combat those who abuse their mutations for selfish and dangerous purposes.

Ascendance of a Bookworm

  • Anime, 26 episodes
  • Fantasy, Slice-of-life, Isekai

Urano Motosu is a book lover who dreams to be a librarian, but her aspirations are dashed when she is killed in a car accident. She is reborn as Myne, a fragile five-year-old in a medieval society. She is determined to read books again, but in a world without the printing press, all books are hand-copied and therefore rare and expensive. Still, she refuses to give up, and if she can’t afford to buy books, she’ll make her own.
